Miley finished her Sparky book and her Book review, so we rewarded her with some new dress up clothes! She is now in the Sparky extra credit book! Way to go baby girl!

Miley Finally lost her first tooth! Jan 18, 2012. You can see the adult tooth is already in, and has been for 3 -4 weeks. She was eating an apple, and out popped the Baby tooth. It is in that baggie somewhere.

Beach 2011

We visited Topsail Island for a week. The beach was wonderful, the house...not so much. I am bleaching everything today (there were bed bugs).
One thing we did miss greatly was a central A C. There were two portable units, but they could not keep up. It never was below 85 degrees in that house. It was also moldy and filled with mildew and pet stains! YUCK! Good thing there was a beach outside.
We also spent on day up at Fort Macon and the Maritime Museum.

Using swim suits, away from anything, and a slip and slide to rinse off...colored bubbles are fun. That said, I will not be purchasing them again. But we did have fun.

On another note...Paxton is at UNC for round 3 of the stem cell transplants. He is doing much better that the doctors give as his best prognosis. He is a super boy!

Easter gift mess....

I gave the kids what sounded like a great idea on paper. A bubble Machine (I wont have to keep blowing bubbles) and colored bubbles (how cool does that sound!?). Well it was VERY messy. Lessons learned, #1 wear bathing suits, #2 use away from house, swing set, outdoor chairs, and anything you don't want to be cleaning later. #3 it doesn't just rinse off, you have to wipe down whatever is hit. #4 it seems to stain the bottoms of feet, not coming off easily there.

For Jackson's birthday we had a wrestling party. We had all the family (Paxton too) plus two friends. We watched Smackdown, ate dinner, created a wrestling persona opened presents and had cake. Jackson was so pleased to get the RAW tickets, and surprised.
Jackson wants so much to be grown up. I am having a hard time letting him. I am trying to let him be more independent, but that means letting go a little more each day. I am so proud of the young man he is becoming. He is honest and open; I am so thankful that he is. He is caring and compassionate. And at the same time he is a daredevil, and adventurous. I see a post coming soon about a broken arm (aaahhhh).

I can't believe how big you are getting. You are becoming so independent and have quite the personality. You love your Daddy - You run to the door when you hear the garage opening. You love your Daddy More! Miley will say, "I love you Mommy." I reply, "I love you more!", Miley says, "No, Daddy loves me more." When asked who she loves more, it is Daddy!. You love to snuggle with your Daddy and eat his snacks.
You have become quite the abstract artist. You do not like it when you are supposed to color things the way nature intended. You like Pink/Purple hair, and when making your own picture, it is an abstract rendition of how you were feeling. You are now tall enough to get your own clothes out of the closet, so you have begun to dress yourself and pick your own clothes. You like to mix prints and colors. The more colors and prints, the prettier you feel. When you are playing by yourself, you sing what you are doing. You love to preform.
You love being the center of attention, and you love to be silly. I can't wait to see what God has in store for you!

Paton Update

Paxton had his second MRI today, three months exactly after the first MRI gave us such terrible news.
Today gave us news only God could provide. The entire tumor that was on his brain is GONE! He still has two spots on his spine, but both are SMALLER! The doctor and radiologist were both amazed! God is truly at work in this little man!
To God be the Glory!
Paxton will still have to undergo the heavy Chemo with the stem cell replacement. Each treatment will take 3 weeks or so in the Cancer Center. We think that there will be 3 treatments.

So it has been since my husband's birthday since Ive posted...It has been a little hectic and I think that by not blogging about Paxton, I was not acknowledging that this is actually happening.
Paxton had a bad cold and ear infection in November. He was losing weight (we thought it was because of the cold). He started vomiting when he started taking the antibiotic. December 11th, Christi and Barry took him to the ER for fluids (it was a Saturday). By Sunday Morning, he had been diagnosed with Meningitis. By Sunday Night he had brain cancer. He was taken to UNC Sunday night where they drained fluid off his brain. Monday morning he went in for brain surgery. They removed most of his tumor, but he will have to go through Chemo until July.
He has been doing well with the chemo, sick on his stomach, but well. He is recovering from each treatment a little slower than predicted, but he is only almost 3 years old. He is a fighter, and I have no doubt he will be fully restored by God.
Please Pray for little Paxton.

I am so proud of Jackson. He is currently into Greek Mythology (he loves the Percy Jackson books). I also discovered he is a photographer. We went to Birthday party that Miley was invited to go to. "Sweet Pumpkin", or at least that is what she is being called until Amanda and Kamal decide on a name, was born November 3rd at 2:40pm. She weighted 7lbs 8.5oz, she is 19inches long and has a head circumference of 13 inches. Mom and girl are doing fine. I am one proud Aunt and cant wait to see her next week when I fly to NH.

Sleep, oh where did you go?

My Dear Friend Larissa and I have been commiserating together in our lack of sleep. She has been such an encouragement to me, that I thought I might be an encouragement to others. I basically haven't had a good nights sleep "stretch" since I got pregnant with Jackson. Jackson didn't sleep through the night until he was 2 (and that was the first time). He didn't sleep consistently through the night until he was 3.5, and that was when I got pregnant with Miley. People often told us we should let him cry it out, but when we tried that he would cry so much he would vomit... Miley was a much easier baby, but I did get up to nurse her two times a night for a year, and then one time a night for almost another year. But since we have moved her to a toddler bed (at age 2), she likes to get up and come get me several times a night. We gated her in her room, but she started climbing the gate and knocking it over (her room is at the top of the stairs, yikes!) Lately it seems my children conference before bedtime to decide who will wake me. If one sleeps the other wakes me up.
The past two nights have been really rough. One night Miley had growing pains, and if I stopped rubbing her knees and ankles, she would start crying even though she was sound asleep. Last night Jackson was fighting an asthma attack. It is hard to sleep to the sound of the nebulizer. Oh sleep, where did you go?
But I do know that this is just a season of life. It to will pass.
One thing that I have done to help, is to start a God's Blessing Journal. I started to read my old journal and realized I didn't want anyone else to read it. It was all negative and venting (and it didn't help me feel better). Some nights it is very difficult to see the Blessings in my life, but there is always my family and our safety. THANK YOU GOD!!!!!

1. Make a pot of coffee

What a beautiful day. The Lord truly blessed us. It has been over 95 for the past week, but today it was around 80 when we started Miley's party at Blue Jay Park. Here are a few fun pics from the party.

Happy Anniversary....

I have noticed that a lot of my friends have had anniversaries this week. Well, Happy anniversary to the Browns and the Webers.
It is also our anniversary. This Sunday, Craig and I will celebrate 12 years of marriage. Last year, I had not scanned any photos from our wedding, and had trouble finding a picture of just the two of us...so I have fixed that problem.
I was trying to give Craig a piece of cake so big, he would make a mess of himself...he surprised me that he could put his mouth around that whole piece! Craig was very good to me and tried hard not to make a mess on me.

Every year, I remember what a busy week it was. My Mom's Birthday, My little sister's high school graduation, My Dad's 50th birthday and my wedding all in one week. Whew...
I am so blessed that God placed Craig in my life. He is a wonderful husband to whom I do not give enough credit. LA YA babe!

At church, Barbara Rivera started the Mother Bear project. You knit or crochet a bear for a child who has aids. So I went to class and learned how to crochet from Ginny Stout (a wonderful church member who took the time to teach me!). I made a bear for the Mother Bear Project, then I made another bear for a group going on a mission trip to Guatemala. All the while I had two kids begging for a bear. I finished them both recently...here they are.

Miley is doing great with her potty training....she has had zero daytime accidents, and only one night time (which was my fault for fogeting to cut off her liquids around 8). She has also learned to open the gate at the bottom of the stairs (so I took it down and will give it to church). Miley also moved into a booster car seat this week......oh my so much in just a little time....
I guess all I have to do is clothe and feed her until she is 18. She is such a grownie.

Unexpected Visitor

We had an unexpected visitor at our house Friday night. She was making a lot of noise at Jimmy and Phyllis' house. I found her last night and brought her home, expecting to send her to the SPCA today. I posted a picture of her on Craigslist, and got an immediate response. She is now living with a girl who just graduated college. She was looking for a playmate for her 1 year old cat. It seems perfect. Good luck little "Kevin" (Craig named her that).

Today I went grocery shopping. And for the first time in 3 years, I didn't buy diapers or pull ups. I bought underwear! No more diapers, no more diapers!!!! (I probably just cursed my self, and will have to go back to pull ups, but today I am excited.

Miley has had a dry and clean pull-up all day and all night for 6 days now....
For those of you looking for Potty training advice...I don't have much to give you. For both of my children, it was their choice. I always praised and did the potty dance for every success. If they still went in a pull up or diaper, I said, "yuck, that is gross". But that was it. Jackson told me he was ready for underwear at 3 yrs old, and has had only 2 accidents since. Miley told me she wanted underwear like Jackson this week, so here we are!

Jackson opened up star wars, star wars and more star wars.....he completed both space ships within the first day.
For his party we had kids over for star wars training exercises. The made light sabers, bombed the death star and learned how to use the force. I will post video of the party later....

Hi ladies,
A friend of mine sent me this....
"I rescued two 8 week old puppies from our local animal shelter that were going to be euthanized on my birthday! Needless to say, we couldn't let that happen. I've attached two pictures.
These guys are litter mates, lab / pitt mixes. They are absolutely adorable and I would keep them in a minute if I didn't already have three. Raleigh isn't going to let me move back if I have 5 dogs.

I am taking them this Wednesday for their surgery. They are so perfect together and have never been apart... ultimately, I would love to find somebody that could take both of them. They hang out in my fenced in back yard and play together until they drop from exhaustion. They show zero aggression to my dogs or my cat. We haven't had any accidents in over a month, they are being crate trained. They are lovely little dogs and deserve a good home. We are looking to put our house on the market very soon so I thought I would reach out one last time, see if you could forward to your networks, and help me find them a home. Well, Here in NC we usually get one snow every 2-3 years. This is #2 this year. It is not unusual for the snow to be in March. It is so pretty sitting on the branches, but that probably means we will lose power some time today.

We have been playing in the snow today....it snowed 8 inches of snow, and the local kids only got a 2 hour delay for school.
Here we are ready to sled down the hill. Jackson has the right idea to wear his ski goggles.

Another chore is riding the tractor to plow the snow and blow the snow. After you have raked your roof, you need to get the snow away from the edges of the house, so why not use a major snow blower instead of a shovel.

Day 4

Well, Had I known it was going to snow 10-12 inches today, we would have gone outside to play yesterday. So we have had to stay in today. This was the first time I can recall, that I have ever witnessed a white out. I couldn't see down the driveway, the snow was falling so hard.
Amanda and Kamal did leave today. Grandpa Mike braved the snow and drove them to the airport (2 hours south) where they hardly had any snow (only 3 inches). He has returned safely. I don't know how you drive down a road, that you can't see because it is all white.
Miley and Jackson continue to improve health wise, which made it a little difficult to keep them indoors today. But they are doing great. We have been playing Bingo, Dominoes and watching Prince Caspian today. Miley has set up her own little kitchen on the piano bench, and has been serving us all kinds of food, all day today.
We look forward to making the biggest snowman ever tomorrow.

Jackson built a gingerbread house with Nana, which we have all enjoyed eating. Kamal and Dad went skiing/snowboarding again.
Last night we watched the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Great movie.

New Hapmshire Day 2

We woke up at the crack of dawn to go skiing. This week is one of the vacation weeks for public schools, so it was going to be crowded.
We arrived at Sunapee family resort around 8:30 to sign up for lessons. Jackson and I both took lessons. Jackson took snowboarding lessons, and I took skiing lessons (it has been 10 years since I went last). Jackson did great! His teacher said he worked so hard, and he can toe and heel (I'm still not sure what that means). She had Jackson crawl up the slope, about 50 feet, and shred back down. Jackson has a little cold, so he was very tired by noon. I did great too; it all came back very quickly.

Nana called around 1pm and said that Miley was pulling on her ear, and had a little fever. So we called it a day and came back.
Miley went to the doctor here in NH, and does have an ear infection. After just one dose of the Omnicef, she is right as rain.
Last night was dominoes night. We played 4 games, and Jackson won 2 times. That is a little depressing for us other adults. We were all using strategy's, and creating scenarios, and Jackson beats us all! My excuse is that Miley sat next to me, and kept handing me extra dominoes (wink wink, LOL).

New Hapmshire, Day 1

We got on the plane at 7:30 this morning, and the kids were GREAT! On the drive up to Nana and Grandpa Mike's house, both kids took a short nap. We were here by 11:30. It is now 3:45, and we have been playing outside...in the snow!!!

ARRRGGGGG Pirates!

During Pre-School today (yes I am teaching pre-school to Braydon and Miley) we were talking about ears. Loud and quiet sounds. We read the book, "How I became a Pirate" by Melinda Long and David Shannon. Through out the book, we repeated what the pirates were saying, loudly.

Valentines Day Circle

Valentines day has made a complete circle for me...
As a child, it was all about the candy...the more the better. And I tried to make that candy last until Easter.
As a teenager, I wanted Valentines day to be about someone showing love for me. I wanted to be the girl carrying around balloons or roses in school, to show off how much people loved me.
Then I meet Craig....

He showed me love like I did not know it could be...selfless, unconditional. Valentines day became about showing each other ways that we love one another.

At our wedding, we talked about the band, the circle that we wear to show we are one. Never ending, never beginning. It just is and always will be. We are one now.

Now, we try to show each other that love all year round, so in a way, everyday is Valentines day. It isn't about the candy that would just get added to my thighs, or the roses that eventually die, it is about sharing my life with the man of my dreams, everyday, in everyway, for eternity.
So now Craig and I don't spend money on Valentines day for eachother. We don't need a day to show our love. We show it every day. We spend our money on the kids, so it has become again, a kid holiday in our house. All about the candy and how long Jackson can make it last (maybe to Easter).

Here is a pic of Jackson doing his favorite thing; being a Jedi Knight. He starts his day, everyday, by watching a Star Wars Movie. He wakes up before me, comes downstairs, and starts the movie he wants. The trouble is, I have been having dreams of planes landing on our house, or WW3. LOL!
Here is one of Miley's favorite things to do. Dress up. She is a Sunglasses wearing, ballerina, doctor. She will dance her way to her patient, and then fix you.

I had another reminder that the Lord is in control....
Last night my battery in my car died...not a gradual thing, just cu-put. Jimmy said that he thinks the battery had an internal short.
Of all the places that I was yesterday...Brassfield, carpool, Target, Walgreens, Bank, tutoring; the Lord kept the battery working until I was in Jimmy and Phyllis' driveway. The "perfect" place for it to go cu-put, if there can be a perfect place. I brought Phyllis' car home ready to drive it for a day. Jimmy took out my old battery and went to advanced auto to get me a new one, and then installed it. I had my car back before bedtime.
Thank you Lord for keeping me safe, letting my car die in the "right" place, and for such wonderful in-laws.

Memphis

Well we made it back! The game didn't go quite as planned, but it was still fun to watch. Craig and I left the kids at Grandma's and grandpa's house Tuesday night. Our flight left Wednesday the 31st at 6am. We arrived in Memphis around 9:30 (memphis time). We got our rental car and swung by Graceland to pick up our Sun studio tickets. We took the first tour of the day at Sun and really enjoyed the museum. Where we are standing with the Mic, is where Elvis stood!
We spent the rest of the 31st walking around downtown Memphis. We went back to the hotel for a nap, and then went to supper at O'Charley's. That evening we went and looked at the Graceland lights (walked there from the hotel). We lasted long enough to watch Dick Clark, and then passed out.
On the 1st we woke up around 8, and spent 7 hours at Graceland. We really enjoyed the VIP tour. We went through the house twice, and the 'bonus' room twice. We did every museum on the other side of the road; my favorite was the jumpsuit museum. That evening we had tickets to a "pirate" pep rally, on Beale street. We enjoyed all the live music.
On the 2nd we got up to go to the "pirate" tail gate. Both Kentucky and ECU were in the same building and there was a very fun battle of the bands. Great food, good fun! At the game we had a great time, but the end result was not what we wanted. After the game we went to a local diner for ribs and bbq nachos. Yummy!

Santa came to visit our church again this year. How lucky are we! Jackson sat in his lap in 2002, 2005, 2007 and this year 2008. He was too scared in 2003, and 2004. And he was sick in December 2006.
Miley didn't go in 2006, Jackson was sick, and has been too scared each year so far. I hope to be able to get a picture next year.

Anticipation

With Christmas only a few days away.....the anticipation is high for everybody. Jackson is anticipating what Santa will bring. Miley doesn't understand why she can't open up her presents now.
Craig and I are anticipating the look on the kids faces. We will be very tired this year I am sure for this is the first year where assembly is required, and Jackson will be up extra early to see if Santa came.
I really appreciate all the traditions people have been posting.....we will be stealing the birthday cake for Jesus idea.

Growing up....I always went to my Grandparents house for Christmas Eve for a family supper and presents. Christmas Morning, Santa presents were always wrapped because my parents were into torture...we had to wait for My Grandparents to arrive before we opened Santa presents, LOL. The older I got, the easier this was.
After a family breakfast and everyone got dressed....we opened up presents at our house. Then we all passed out.

Now we have many of the same traditions...we go to Jimmy and Phyllis's house on Christmas Eve to open presents for the whole family. We have a large dinner and sing carols. It is wonderful to spend time with family.
Christmas morning Santa presents are first. I have invited the family over for breakfast every year so far, but the kids don't have to wait for them before they open the Santa presents.
We then go to Christmas lunch at the community house. All the Aunts and Uncles and cousins are there for a pot luck lunch. Yummy!
After lunch we come home to open presents from my parents and sisters. And then we pass out.

The biggest difference between the two traditions is we now have a huge focus on Jesus. We open presents to celebrate Jesus' birth, and to show His love for us. It is such a sweet time. Santa is a cool guy who wants to show Jesus' love to children and everyone else. So he leaves them presents to show how you can spread Jesus' love to people you have never meet.

I'm not sure which I am more excited about...Miley Peeing on the potty 3 times in 2 days or putting up Christmas trees. Here are the kids putting up ornaments on our tree. Miley has spent the past hour redecorating the tree. She loves to rearrange the ornaments.
I did put up Craig's Elvis tree and lights, but he will put on his own ornaments later. I will get some pics of that when it is done.
